Description
My rambles in the northern reaches of the Maryland - Washington DC suburban areas often took me down roads that had been country lanes not too many years previous, but which were slowing becoming connecting roads between growing towns and new, bustling housing subdivisions. In many cases, structures that had stood the test of time, decades ... maybe even a hundred or more years ... were slowing being left behind and abandoned.
When I passed by this little building, I think located in Howard County, one late afternoon at the end of January, 2009, I had to stop and admire its inspiring situation. The beautiful evergreens to either side, my imagination and I decided, had been planted with much love and maybe even a little fanfare many years before. The pretty clearing in which the church sat was ideal to frame the structure and bring to its members a peaceful and hopeful heart as they arrived for worship.
It's been so long since I visited that I don't remember now if there was a sign out front announcing the faith practiced here ... if the church was indeed abandoned, the sign would have been removed ... but based on the area, I'd say it was probably Methodist.
Studying the original photo on which this image is very loosely based, there does seem to be a curved driveway that cuts between the evergreens and the building, with tire tracks in the snow, so I'm hoping that this lovely church was, at that time at least, still providing guidance and love to many.

Henk, thank you ... I'm not usually a b&w / monochrome person, but this one seemed to want it
