Description
Honored to announce that "Green Winged Macaw" tied for 3rd place in the Fine Art America contest "Feathered Friends" sponsored by the Art Lovers Celebrating Color Group, Sept. 30, 2017. My sincere thanks to everyone who voted for my image, and to the contest administrator, Kanisha Moye. Congratulations to the other winners!!
I've added images of this glorious creature, who posed for me so patiently one morning in May, 2011, previously. However, I'm pretty sure I was under the impression that he was a scarlet macaw. I did a bit more research this evening and have come to believe that he's actually a green-winged macaw, also known as a red and green macaw. I do offer my apologies to him!!!
I found him and several of his buddies at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo located in Thurmont, Maryland, and hope to get back by there again this spring to pay another visit. Love the way the light that morning hit his eye and eyelashes ... the shadow gives him such a dapper and debonair look!!!
Original photograph taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-300mm vr Nikkor lens. The light was great that morning, so only a few tweaks in Photoshop before adding the image to Corel Painter 2015 for a complete hand-painted re-work. The addition of a great texture from Karen Burns completed the impressionistic-y look.
