I'm sure you've heard the old expression "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a noise?"
Well, I wonder something along those same lines, but in a visual sense. If a tree glows in the forest and no one is there to see it, is it still pretty?
My husband and I recently moved ... and behind our old house were acres of quiet woodland ... a lovely natural paradise that I'mthinking now, I didn't take advantage of nearly often enough. But on a particular early November afternoon in 2008, I did. Catching this little dogwood tree, standing bravely among the taller oaks and maples and whatevers, all of whom had already lost their colorful autumn leaves, I couldn't help admiring the way its leaves caught the afternoon light and lit up like a column of gold.

Wow looks so much like a high dollar French impressionist painting you'd see in a Paris museum. Superb!

Thank you so much, Mary ... it was such a beautiful sight!!! All the trees were bare but these little dogwood really hold onto their leaves in this area. So pretty to see when the sunlight is right!!
