Description
An architecturally magnificent barn tucked away on route 30 among old trees and the rolling hills of Central Pennsylvania, near Everett and Bedford. The lovely rusty-red roof is adorned with dormer windows and two cupolas. A summertime scene, the colors and mood of which almost rival my personal favorite work of art, Midsummer Twilight by Willard Leroy Metcalf. Can you hear the crickets and cicadas singing in the warmth of the late day sun?
I must have passed by this beautiful old barn a hundred times ... and more than once obeyed the compulsion to stop the car and get out and get some shots. This particular image was taken at about 4 pm on a glorious August day, exactly five years and one day from the day I'm adding it to my portfolio.
Not long after I took the pictures on that perfect summer eve, the location was used for storage of new farm equipment for sale. I don't know how many years it stood, disued, before that. But, sadly, it wasn't used for the equipment storage for long. As I drove by about a year ago, I was heartbroken to see nothing but a barren field ... this glorious old barn had been torn down.
Such is life.

Love this barn and your description, Lois. That last line....they tore it down....so sad. My mother loved to paint old barns....and I have some of her work. They spoke to her too! Bravo for saving it for us! L/F+++
Lois Bryan replied:
Aw Nancy thank you. I have to think more than one of the guys doing the demolition had tears in their eyes.

This barn is full of character, reminds me of the Barns by Eric Sloane.
Lois Bryan replied:
Charlotte, thank you. Unfortunately I have no history, no stories about this sweetie, other than what I wrote in my description.
