Description
A wild thistle, lovely to look at ... but painful to the touch.
The thistle is the national emblem of Scotland and the symbol of The Order Of The Thistle, a high chivalric order of Scotland. According to a legend, an invading Norse army was attempting to sneak up at night upon a Scottish army's encampment. During this operation one barefoot Norseman had the misfortune to step upon a thistle, causing him to cry out in pain, thus alerting Scots to the presence of the Norse invaders.
Photo taken early August of 2008 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-135mm Nikon / Nikkor lens.

Lois Bryan replied:
thanks, Thomas ... this was taken up on a mountain in Pennsylvania ... believe it or not, some years I catch the Monarchs when they breeze thru ... and they love these things. Must say I and my dog(s) don't love them ... after they dry their little stickers are really awful!!
