Description
This beautiful Eastern Towhee comes to visit me every winter. During the worst of our blizzards I find him cuddled up in a snow drift, tucked safely away in a comfy cavern carved from the harshest of the wind's blasts. He knows that no matter the weather, there will always be his favorite black oiler sunflower seeds in the feeders and spread on the snow. As the inches of the white stuff build up, so do my tossings of seeds ... until Mother Nature and I are almost in a battle to see who can make the biggest mess.
According to Cornell Lab of Ornithology's "All About Birds" web page, my Towhee is only supposed to be in my area during summer. But as this picture shows, dead of winter is when he visits. I guess he knows that, although I hate to cook, I know how to treat my guests and can toss a mean handful of seeds when I want to!!

This is a real beauty, Lois. You've captured what looks to be a puffed up, self satisfied little creature. Bravo! L/F -- Joe.

What a little charmer! I hope that all birds go to heaven, for it would be a lonely place without them! l/f
