Description
A brilliantly colorful red-breasted (well, orange to me) American Robin sits out a March snow storm on a snow-covered tree branch ... apparently resigned to Mother Nature's latest spring whim. Snow storms in March aren't unusual in the Maryland area, in fact, their fall can be heavier and deeper than snows we get earlier in the season. My little worm-eating friend here is going to have to cinch his belt a notch tighter for a day or two. But our area weather being as fickle as it is, there's every likelihood that once the storm passes, sunshine and warmer temperatures will quickly rebound ... and Mr. Robin will get his fill of bugs for his breakfast soon enough.
You've probably head the old saying, "It's the early bird that catches the worm"? Well, in this case, it's the early bird who caught a snow storm. Though the migratory habits of the American Robin in the Mid-Atlantic area are seemingly an accepted and expected practice, some robins do overwinter here. That being said, however, I always thrill when I get to witness the return of clouds of hundreds of the little guys as they make their way back from warmer climates and cover our lawns with their pretty feathered selves and the air with their familiar songs every spring!
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

Hi Lois~ I had to stop by and I see the 900,000+ visits and can easily see the "Why" of it. Simply wonderful art that is extraordinary! It is all the grand touches that you add to every piece that expresses so well the beauty that you see in virtually everything. THEN-- being able to take the simplest of things ( like this bird!) and make it special and sooooooooooooo wonderful. I bow (ever so humbly) to the master! FAVORITE!.....AND the descriptions are like icing on a grand cake.
