Description
Honored that "As Winter Melts Into Spring" tied for third place in the 2/13/2022 contest "ArtworkSold In January 2022." Many thanks to the contest administrator, VLee Watson, and to everyone who voted for my image. Congratulations to the other winners!
Three lovely old buildings along Colonial Williamsburg's well known main street, Duke of Gloucester, stand shivering in the late afternoon sunlight, doing their best to shed themselves of a recent snowfall. Though their toes are still covered in drifts and wet slush, they're mostly rid of the white-stuff on their heads and pretty faces. They aren't really worried, though. They've been around long enough to know that the rare snowfalls in Williamsburg usually melt fast. And there's a certain playful warmth in the slant of the golden rays that tells them spring is on its way.
I don't know how I'd ever be able to live anywhere but the mid-Atlantic area of the East Coast of the US. We are so blessed to have four distinct seasons ... and I have no idea which is truly my favorite. I always seem to be in love with the next one that's coming around the bend. In summer, I long for the brilliant colors and cooler temperatures of autumn; in the fall I can't wait for the first snowfall; in winter I'm anxious for the first daffodils to bloom; and in spring I long for the lazy summer days and exciting thunder storms ... and of course the beach ... of summer.
One of the magical things about the seasons, though, are those rare days ... maybe not even days ... maybe just moments ... where the transition is actually taking place. We can see it, even feel it ... if we're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time!

You created a beautiful mood in this painterly image, Lois. So lovely, with the tree reaching out above all three houses and drawing my eye to the whole. Just a perfect street scene! L/F
