Description
I'd like to dedicate this image to two very special members of the Fine Art America community: David Bearden ( http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/david-bearden.html ) and Steve Harrington ( http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/steve-harrington.html ). Both are amazing artists and both have shown me how to appreciate the beauty of the black and white image. I'm usually all about color .. the more the merrier ... but under the influence of these two gentlemen, I'm learning.
Aspirations has already been uploaded here in a color version ... but I must say I think the architectural elements of line and angle lend themselves well to black and white as well.
Again, my thanks to David and Steve!!
The subject of this image is the capital building of Pennsylvania, located in Harrisburg. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Tinkering and texture added in Photoshop CS4 and CS5; some playing around in Capture NX2 and Camera Raw.

Enjoy your images in and around Harrisburg, where I do most of my photography. This rear shot of the state capitol in b&w has wonderful composition and texture. Thanks for sharing.
Lois Bryan replied:
A late thanks, Geoff ... we were there on a day that started out rainy and nasty, plus it was a Saturday, so we weren't bothered with too much foot-traffic. I had a blast all around all the different angles ... LOVE architectural photography!!!!
Joyce Dickens
This is such an awesome B&W image dear Lois; I love this point of view, the geometrics, shadows, light, texture....ALL IS SOOO GOOD!!! xoxo Joyce
Lois Bryan replied:
Joyce, thank you so much for your lovely note ... apologies for not seeing it until now!!
Steve Harrington
What a fine image, Lois! B&W is all about tones and you have handled them deftly in this nice composition. Monochrome is quite literally a different way of seeing and I have found Nik Silver Efex an outstanding way to convert images. Do try it and let me know if I can help you with it in any way. I am so pleased and flattered by your dedication, Lois. Thank you! You have brightened my evening. :)
Lois Bryan replied:
Aww, Steve, thank you so much!!! I'm thrilled that you approve ... and I agree ... this is a different way of seeing ... beautifully said!!! I have seen Silver Efex (of course I have color Efex, lol!!) and if I do more of this, I may indeed give Silver a try!!!! And again, I thank YOU!!!!

This is absolutely outstanding, as is all your work. The detail and clarity is so incredible. Your dedication is certainly appropriate to David and Steve's excellent work. I love this and give it an instant vote & fave. Praise from you is high praise, indeed.
Lois Bryan replied:
Lenore, bless your heart ... thank you ... you can't know with what trepidation I posted this one ... I'm usually all about color, but with examples such as those we see from David and Steve, I thought it was time to dip a toe into the b&w waters!!! I'm thrilled that you approve!!!!!

I like! Great texture/processing, and yes, the subject matter looks good in B & W, as well as color. Your Aspirations might be my Inspiration for a little b & w work, too! v

Amazing Lois, the texture in the sky is awesome!!
