A huge surprise and unusual visual gift to many of us in the southern portion of the US (and elsewhere?) was the interplay of celestial elements last night as a geomagnetic storm ... otherwise known as an aurora borealis ... danced above our heads. In my case, I was able to get to a lovely cornfield and not only enjoy the display myself, but try to preserve it for others to enjoy as well.
This image was snapped with my Apple iPhone 16 pro. At this particular point, this display was not visible to the naked eye, although it had been just a few minutes earlier. As I'd run into the house, put on shoes and grabbed car keys, the vision had disappeared ... but the iPhone wasn't fooled ... found it ... and captured it!! Very, very, very little Photoshop tinkering ... I did remove my finger which was splashed over the foreground.
Btw ... the foreground corn stalks are lit because I left my car headlights on. I was going to turn them off, but thought the highlighting of t...
Welcome! I"m a photographer and digital artist living in the Mid-Atlantic area of the US. Drawing and creating my own little sketchy worlds are some of my earliest memories. Life did what it does and the art fell away, but I reconnected when digital photography was introduced. I enjoy adding to my love of photography by tinkering with computer art programs including Photoshop, Corel Painter, Rebelle and others , though I do not use Ai / Artificial Intelligence. I also love working completely freehand with no photo reference involved. All of which is allowing me to circle back to a semblance of my days of sketching and painting traditionally. Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a glitch in our system. The images in...

A marvelous capture of the beautiful aurora. I find it amazing that typically the beautiful colors are not visible to the naked eye, but are only visible in a photograph.
Lois Bryan replied:
Charles, actually when I first went outside when my son called, we could see it with our naked eyes!!! I have a couple of photos ... but of course there are houses in the front. So I ran inside grabbed car keys and shoes but by the time I came back out .. only minutes later ... it was invisible. I looked thru the iPhone, and bam ... still there. So I drove out to a couple of places with a clear view ... no houses ... and the lights were stiill there!!
