So excited to announce that "Between The Waves" tied for third place in the Fine Art America contest "Shores Of North Carolina" 1/12/18 hosted by the "Art By God Photography Only" group. My sincere thanks to the contest administrator Karen Wiles and to everyone who was kind enough to vote for my image. Happiest congratulations to the other winners, too!!
After hurricane Jose blew through the Outer Banks of North Carolina, September of 2017, we were excited to see the amazing and acrobatic Brown Pelicans. They were nowhere to be seen during the worst of the rain and wind that came with the storm. But when the sun returned, the vision of these amazing, prehistoric-looking birds returned as well ... to skim cleverly between the waves, looking for their next meal.
The tides and rip currents were stronger and the waves were higher and wilder than I remember seeing them in many years ... but it all made for a beautiful scene for my usually land-bound eyes to enjoy.
This digital hand-painting is loosely based on one of my own photographic images.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
