Those of you who follow along with my images and my written ramblings, may recognize this fellow as my dear old friend, Pip ... my personal cardinal. Here we see him clinging to a branch on a cold and blustery January day in 2014.
My husband and I have been living in our new home for a bit over a year now and it has been my hope to find that Pip followed us here ... fat chance, I know, lol ... or that one of his cousins would have discovered us by now and made our feeding station his home turf. Hasn't happened yet.
What we do have, however, is a very persistent, greedy and territorial mocking bird. The little poop dive bombs the other birdies away. For weeks and weeks I've been trying to figure out what was going on. I suspected the mocking bird was to blame for my birdie-less feeders ... but it wasn't until I removed the suet cakes several days ago that he's begun to lose interest. He's still hanging around and harassing the other birdies, but definitely less incessantly. And ...
I saw a cardinal at the feeders this morning.
Hope springs eternal.
