A small drab-green painted table, timeless in its simple grace and beauty in spite of its few nicks and notches ... and surely something most would never look twice at ... sits companionably beside a comfy chair. The table has been around many years, always ready to accept the occasional glass of wine or cup of coffee or half-read book. On its golden-warm wooden top rests an equally aged clay pot, filled to overflowing with a happy ivy plant. In sharp contrast to the old table, the ivy's tendrils and leaves, young and strong and vigorous, wind and spill over and reach for the ground. Doubtless it plans to sneak by us and root and take over the house. How disappointed it will be when, instead of good rich earth to dig into, it finds a shining hardwood floor. Life plays tricks on us all.
