Description
So happy to announce that "Dawn Takes Edinburgh" won 2nd place in the Fine Art America contest "Metropolitan Painting" Jan 16, 2019. Many thanks to the contest administrator, Max Good, and especially to everyone who voted for my and my son's image. Congratulations to the other winners!!!
Though I'm rarely around to witness the event, those few times that I have been, I'm in awe of the brief moments when night is chased away and dawn begins to take over. Happens every morning, so I hear, and it can be as glorious as a sky filled with eye-popping color or as subtle as a vague lifting of tones of gray. Or it can creep in, doorway by doorway, color by color, inexorably pushing back the darkness ... as seen in this image.
Original photograph taken by my son, Rich Bryan, during his stay over the pond in 2012 in a fascinating winding street within the ancient and historic city of Edinburgh, Scotland. I have no idea where exactly this was, nor do I know the ages or any of the history of the buildings.
More to the point, I haven't asked what my son was doing up and about at dawn.
Some things a mother just doesn't want to know.
But I'm glad he was there ... with the camera ... because this image has fascinated me all these years (it's now 2018).
Original photo taken with the Nikon D40x and digitally hand-painted by myself in Corel Painter.
This image was NOT created using AI - Artificial Intelligence.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

Lois "...when night is chased away by dawn." An old friend, one late Summer night (just before dawn) as we were walking (staggering) home along the beach in Westhampton told me, in answer to my question, that we were walking in the "madracota" (sp?) Nicodemis Hufford, my art mentor will be missed. "Dawn Takes Edinburg" and you desc gave me a nice little jolt. l/f
Lois Bryan replied:
Dear Bill ... I read your note a while back but was unable to respond at the time. I'm so glad to be re reading it because the description of your flash-back is exactly the thing I most love. That amazing and tenuous bond between us, the creators of something, and those who happen to stumble on it and ... connect. WOW. Kid, one again, you've truly made my day. I bet there are stories you could tell of those days ... you need to pick up a pencil and a yellow legal pad and Start Writing!!!!!!!! I see a best seller on your horizon!!!!! ; ))
