Description
A day on the beach at North Carolina's Outer Banks spent gazing at the ins and outs of the waves is my idea of perfection. Usually not much going on out there, kids learning to boogie-board, the strong young teens catching a nice wave on their surf boards, a sailboat way out on the horizon, and maybe a school of dolphins or a dozen pelicans skipping through the breakers.
But look back toward the land now and then, too. That's often where the weather comes from. I've noticed when we're there, almost every afternoon around 3 or 4:00, when I should be heading in to rustle up some dinner for the crew, a silent show is building in the sky. Coming from west to east and usually slightly to our south, heavenly designs begin to take shape.
So here's my advice … take a little extra time, dinner can wait. Watch the shapes form in the sky … doggies with floppy ears cavort … see a Tyrannosaurus Rex take shape … watch turtles crawl … and see the way the light changes. It makes a lovely, peaceful end to a lovely day!
This is my own photo, not from stock or "public domain," taken with the Nikon D7000 and the 18-200mm Nikkor lens.

Lois Bryan replied:
thanks so much Mary Lynn!! They'd come up like that every afternoon, then float out to sea, changing the shapes as they went along. Big fun!!!
