Description
Breaking through the last vestiges of a hurricane, the light begins to brighten the day. Though the ocean's waves are still turbulent and the clouds are still overwhelming, there's definitely a lifting of the threatening gloom. A flock of seagulls, encouraged by the perceived warmth, gather together and head for the sun. They've managed to survive another hurricane and are feeling grateful.
The day after Hurricane Jose hit the Outer Banks of North Carolina, September 2017, was a day of great contrasts. The clearing of the skies and the still frisky waves were a joy to watch, safe as we were behind tall dunes and a snug house. The changes that day were dramatic and swift ... and as we currently (late August 2019) listen to reports of yet another hurricane headed for the US mainland, this time Florida, good thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the path of one of these monsters, that their experience will be as benign and beautiful as ours was on the day this image came to be.
Sketched from and very loosely based on one of my own photos captured at Corolla NC and digitally hand-painted in Corel 2019 with the Wacom Tablet and art pen.
