Very happy to announce that "Lionfish" won third place in the Fine Art America contest "Underwater" 12/10/19 held by the Aether Art Group. Many thanks to the group and contest admin, Jeff Iverson and to everyone who voted for my image. Congratulations to the other winners.
This colorful guy is a lionfish. He's loosely based on a photo I snapped at the National Aquarium in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Baltimore Maryland a few years ago. Originally from the waters of the South Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Indo-Pacific, The Lionfish is now considered an invasive species in the southeast coast of the U.S., the Caribbean, and in parts of the Gulf of Mexico. With his venomous spines and basically no predators, he's turning into quite a problem for the commercial fishing industry as well as our already endangered coral reefs.
This image was digitally hand-painted in Corel Painter with Wacom tablet and many distinct brushes, some unique to me. Based loosely on one of my own photos.
This image was NOT created using AI - Artificial Intelligence programs.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
