Description
There's something that's always been vitally important to our farming communities, be they the large-scale industrial conglomerations of today or neat and tidy family-owned farms, like the one we see here. It's the weather. Rain ... too much of it or not enough. Tearing ice storms, killing tornadoes ... whatever comes out of the sky ... is of vital interest to all of us, but especially so to our farmers.
With the advent of so many new technologies over the past 20 or 30 years, a lot of things ... for the farmer and for the rest of us ... have changed and been made easier. Back in the day, it took a seasoned weather-watcher to stand in his fields, gaze at the sky, and be able to predict what the heavens above were about to do next. These days, most of us just pull out our cell phone and tap into our favorite weather app.
But there are still those hearty souls who go out into the fields, gaze up at the sky, maybe wet their finger and hold it up to test wind direction, maybe even sniff the dirt. Then they squint their eyes and nod knowingly and murmur ... "Looks like rain .... "
This image is hand-painted digitally, loosely based on a photo I took somewhere between Altoona and Bedford, PA.
This image was NOT created using AI - Artificial Intelligence.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

Excellent composition and wonderfully painted, Lois! I like the lane as leading line and the birds work nicely for balance! Great description too; it brings back childhood memories for me of summer on the farm. I used to follow my dad outdoors when he checked the western skies each night just before bedtime; he was very good at predicting rain or no rain too... :-) L/F
Lois Bryan replied:
Wes thank you for your thoughts on the image and the composition ... and thank you, too, for sharing your memories of your dad ... that's so cool!! My dad was good at it, too ... in fact, the "looks like rain" is an expression I heard from him and my uncles, too, way back in the day.
