Artist's Description
A beautiful beast of burden, an ox, goes plodding along on his daily round through the streets of Colonial Williamsburg on a soft spring morning. Teamed with his equally handsome yoke-mate, his burden today consists of an empty wooden cart. I liked the way the sunlight, filtering through the shade of the cooling trees overhead, dappled his golden brown face. I wish I could name his breed, but my extensive research has come up with bupkis.
The title is from an old sing-song we kids used to chant. If I remember correctly, it was when the hide and seek game we played had been moved along to its next level, the "it" kid had found and tagged someone else, and "Olly Olly Oxen Freeeee" was sung out to call in everyone who was still hiding. That was a lot of fun, by the way!!
Since this image is from Williamsburg, I'm hoping that our pretty oxen friend here doesn't have to work too many hours ... and that at a reasonable time in the afternoon he, too, can go oxen-free.
About Lois Bryan

Welcome! I"m a photographer and digital artist living in the Mid-Atlantic area of the US. Drawing and creating my own little sketchy worlds are some of my earliest memories. Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a glitch in our system. The images in...
