Description
One glance up at the top of Burnside Bridge, one of the many sobering and iconic and yet so beautiful locations to take in when visiting Antietam / Sharpsburg Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland, and you will probably stop in your tracks. One glance is never enough. Your mind and your heart are carried back over 100 years to a time in our nation when emotions ran high ... as did the death tolls. Antietam / Sharpsburg has the distinction of being the bloodiest one day battle in our nation's history. Light and dark ... life and death. All are so close when we give our feelings free rein and let simple human kindness and consideration for others fly out the window. I consider this image, and all my Civil War pieces, to be cautionary tales.
"On The Other Side" ... a title which could have several meanings, is a close up and adjusted version of "Woodland Phlox At Antietam" ... also available here.
This painting is based on one of my own photos (not from "stock" or public domain) which I used to loosely sketch and digitally hand-paint using Corel Painter.
NOT created by AI - Artificial Intelligence.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

love your text to go with this very emotional picture. Yes, both feelings are so very close and so many many people tend to forge ahead regardless of the hurt and pain it might create. Lois, your work has touched my heart right from the first time I saw it. All of it is produced with love and a deep sense of beauty. Big hug.

An "emotional" and "magical" and "dark" piece that resonates with me. Congrats on the features. And regards.
