Description
A vibrant monarch butterfly perches delicately on the tall, purple blooms of a butterfly bush against a striking blue sky. The composition highlights the contrast between the butterfly's vivid orange and the rich hues of the flowers.
Our neighborhood is still under construction with new homes being built all around us.
This may or may not have impacted the butterfly population, but the summer of 2023 was dismal. We'd planted butterfly bushes, our annuals were all lantana (which butterflies in our old neighborhood practically stood in line to enjoy) and lots of echinacea. The whole season, I saw only one butterfly. Season 2024 was better and I have high hopes for more of my little winged angels visiting again!! Hope to see you soon!
Photo taken in my backyard in July of 2024. No artificial intelligence used. Fine art and product purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... wall art will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

This is a stunning capture! The monarch’s fiery orange wings pop beautifully against the deep purples and that striking blue sky. Love how the composition guides the eye, making it feel like nature’s own perfect painting. Such a fantastic balance of color and detail!

So wonderful, Lois. I too had only a few monarchs visiting but I blamed myself for not having the best zinnias which I usually plant from seed. I worry though when I think of their migration routes!!
Lois Bryan replied:
Nancy, it's really been different. Where we used to live we controlled all the landscapers and what they applied and where they applied it. In my gardens there, I'd have to wave my hands in front of me as I walked through to gently brush the butterflies away!! Year 2023 was just a mystery ... I think it was all the construction near us. Last year, 2024, the immediate area was more settled ... with more people's yards better established. And as you pointed out, I do realize there's more in play than just our little community! But I'm hopeful for this year!!!!!
