A series of three tiny shops along a busy street in the small town of Frederick Maryland ... colorful and inviting ... seem to entice us to come in and browse.
I love old towns and the wonderful shops that crowd their main streets. Often huddled together as we see here, usually they're not very wide and sometimes the shopping in them is cramped and a bit disorderly, but what treasures we may find!!! And add the aromas of the most exotic candles ... or a freshly ground brew of a heavenly blend of coffee to accompany our enjoyment of the time we spend inside and we can't help but linger. Finding that perfect fall sweater that you'll never find anywhere else ... or an amazing piece of turquoise jewelry ... or a funny mug that would be just perfect for Auntie for her birthday ... this is what it's all about!
I also tend to spend a minute looking at the building itself ... the creaky wooden floors, the worn steps ... wondering about the lives of the people who've gone through those doors during all those years.
A visit to a small town and a stroll through its shops is to me one of the best ways to spend the day. I encourage you to consider doing your Christmas or Holiday shopping in a small town this year ... especially this crazy year (2020 and the Covid mess) ... you will never know how much your patronage will mean to your friends and neighbors who have put their lives into these wonderful shops. Let's try to support our local businesses.
This image was very loosely inspired by one of my own photos, taken in Old Frederick Maryland ... and is another version of a previously uploaded piece, "Shops Of Old Frederick."
It was hand-painted, digitally in Corel Painter with a Wacom tablet, the art pen, and lots of beautiful brushes.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
