Winter here on the east coast this season (2016-2017) has been unusually mild. I'm actually not bragging, because I do love a good, snowy winter. I know our friends to the north west and west have been experiencing unique weather patterns of heavy snow and rain, very unlike what they're unaccustomed to seeing. But as of today, mid February, the daffodils and iris and crocus shoots in the gardens are inches high and looking hopeful, and the buds on some of the trees are beginning to swell. The glowing vibrancy of this rooster work conveys the elegance of a fine 19th century portrait, Lois -- the Duke of Fowl, perhaps.
