Description
A lovely sweet bay magnolia blossom from my front yard, from a few years ago. I adore the fragrant hint of lemony sweetness I would sense as I walked by when they're in bloom!! The magnolia is a symbol of dignity and nobility in China. But on a recent visit to Colonial Williamsburg, I was told they represent a warm welcome and hospitality. To me, they represent both. Where we live the magnolia tree is right on the edge of a thriving environment and over the years, we planted several at our previous home. The grandiflora magnolias, we planted 2 or 3 I think, never survived the occasional horrendous ice storms that we could have there. But the sweet bay, pictured here, did quite well. I haven't been past the old place in a while ... I hope it's still thriving!
