Artist's Description
This little bluebird and his family have made our backyard their winter headquarters this year ... and we're thrilled. Though he has a pretty sour expression on his face at the moment, his unhappiness is understandable. It's January, it's incredibly cold, it had just snowed (no snow on the limbs of the maple tree as the wind was ferocious), and ... worse yet ... the starlings had just arrived. Apparently a bus-load of starlings, in fact. I'll post some images of these voracious guys, too ... they are funny, but they do know how to clean out a feeder in short order. Though I've been diligent keeping the feeders full, with half a dozen aggressive starlings fighting each other and anybody else who happens by, I think you can appreciate Mr. Bluebird's expression.
An interesting note to my bird-loving friends. Contrary to popular wisdom, eastern bluebirds WILL eat at feeders. Normally insectivores and lovers of wild berries, they actually love shelled sunflower seeds and chips....
About Lois Bryan

I also love working completely freehand with no photo reference involved. All of which is allowing me to circle back to a semblance of my days of sketching and painting traditionally. Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a glitch in our system. The images in...
