Artist's Description

The ruins of the magnificent Erechtheion Temple atop the Athenian Acropolis overlook the city of Athens on a sunny summer day. Upholding the south porch are the beautiful Caryatids, statues of young ladies carrying baskets of fruit and walnuts on their heads as offerings to the gods of the temple, Athena, Zeus and Poseidon. They were created from 421 BC to 406 BC.

In 1802 Thomas Bruce, Seventh Lord Elgin, who served as Great Britain's ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, removed one of the Caryatids and other precious artifacts and shipped them to the British museum as a gift. It's said that on that night, the remaining sisters of the stolen Caryatid cried, and that their sobs could be heard all over the city of Athens.

My original photography … taken with an Olympus C-5000 in July of 2005.

Not created using Artificial Intelligence / AI.

Fine art purchases of this image as well as products will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation .....

I also love working completely freehand with no photo reference involved. All of which is allowing me to circle back to a semblance of my days of sketching and painting traditionally. Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a glitch in our system. The images in...
