Description
A stolen glimpse into the past … a view into Ancient Pompeii's House Of The Ancient Hunt, also known as The House Of The Wild Boar or Casa della Caccia Antica. To the left is one of the colorful columns, a part of what must have been a magnificent colonnade surrounding an interior court.
From what I have read and what I remember, at the time of our visit which was 2005, this house was not yet open to the public, so my stolen glimpse was taken from a distance and probably from behind iron bars. My research indicates we're looking into Room 17. If anyone has more information, I'd be delighted to hear it.
I enjoyed creating a somewhat abstract impression of these ruins … emphasizing the colors and textures so that the deeper we look into the courtyard, the more realistic the image becomes. The contrast of the color and life of the past … and what befell the inhabitants in 79 AD is symbolized in the light and color in the base, overshadowed by the darkness above.
Very loosely based on my own photographic image, I digitally hand painted it in Corel Painter using a variety of great abstract brushes and textures. This image was NOT created using any AI - Artificial Intelligence programs.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

I was also at Pompeii but can't help you. Amazing place! LF
Lois Bryan replied:
thanks Al ... I'm 99% positive about this one ... I really did my homework. The pics I found with descriptions had more of the complete court ... and were taken more recently. This wasn't even open to the public when I was there. So ... just a mysterious peek!

Having visited Pompeii, I find this wonderful work of Art to be outstanding!
Lois Bryan replied:
Aw Stuart, thank you. We were there so long ago ... I'm sure a lot has been done since. But I remember this one, couldn't really get in there to see it and on those tours, you know how quickly they go by. You basically have the choice of staying close to the guide and hearing what they say (which I'm sure I'd forget quickly) or lagging behind and getting pics without all the other tourists. I nearly got left behind in Athens, but ... I got some great shots!!! :D
