Description
A brown slipper with fluffy edges is depicted against a textured orange background, creating a warm and earthy combination. Bold brushstrokes in shades of brown and gold emphasize the slipper's form and add depth to the composition.
A solitary moccasin slipper ... looks innocent enough. Looks comfortable. Probably lined with that soft fluffy fuzzy stuff. Looks well worn, too, and that means well loved. But why is there only one?
This slipper is the mate to the one you have on your right foot. But this one, the one we see, is the one you can't find.
In the annals of all things that disappear ... your glasses ... that one sock ... your favorite hat ... that important document you could swear came in the mail last week ... this particular slipper is missing. Where DO these things go? Theories abound about gremlins or The Borrowers or inanimate objects growing legs and walking off ... or, worse yet, Black Holes. As we get older our memories (well, our memories themselves sometimes go missing) but our memories can play tricks on us. This makes the game of hide-and-seek we find ourselves playing with that comfy slipper an even more frequent and frustrating adventure.
Truth ... I spent an entire summer searching for that "other" sandal. Found it ... right in the closet where it was supposed to be (tucked way in the back behind some shoe boxes and yes I'd already looked there repeatedly) ... just in time for autumn.
So. Whether it's Black Holes or gremlins or whatever ... the frustration we feel when something we need decides to go walkies is a universal mystery. Take comfort in the knowledge that we just have to accept some things in this life, and that we're not alone.
After all ...
Maybe the dog did it.
Image hand painted free-hand (no photo base) in Corel Painter using their thick paints while observing my husband's slipper resting comfortably by the fire one winter evening. This is yet another piece that started out as a doodle, getting used to the then-new thick paint technology in Corel. As with some of the doodles, this one sort of kept going and I kind of liked where it went. Not created using AI - Artificial Intelligence programs.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
