Description
A brilliantly colorful scarlet, or red, male Veiltail Betta fish swims lazily through his sun-filled home waters.
Also known as Siamese Fighting Fish, children in Thailand used to collect them in rice paddies and put them together to watch them spar. Hard to believe something so beautiful would be so aggressive! Bettas are native to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, where they live in ditches, rice paddies, shallow pools and slow moving streams (although these are not the colorful versions seen here, which have been selectively bred). To survive in these warm, oxygen-poor habitats, they use a special labyrinth organ which allows them to breathe air above the water surface, although they also have gills like other fish.
He brings back memories of the guppies and black mollies and neons we had in the fish tank over the sink at my mom's house when I was a kid. Watching them made doing the dishes a little more fun!!
This little fishy was very loosely inspired by my own original photography, the background from my imagination. It was hand-painted, digitally, in Corel Painter with a Wacom tablet, the art pen, and a wide variety of beautiful brushes.
NOT created with AI - Artificial Intelligence.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
