Cute as a button and as sweet as pie ... that's our little Buddy. Most of the time.

Smaller dogs have the reputation of being a little fierce now and then. We have seen that in Bud. The contradiction between his adorable, sweet expression and the unpredictable roaring-lion he sometimes becomes can be a shock.

Taking a walk with Buddy is a joy or a challenge. I say walk, they're actually inquisitive sniffs. He's a peaceful happy little boy ... investigating everything ... until someone else has decided to enjoy the sunny day and has brought their own dog out to sniff the sniffs. As soon as Buddy catches a whiff of another canine, the leash tightens and it's here-we-go time. Never mind that the dog coming at us is a veritable tank of a creature, easily able to make lunch of Bud in two chomps. Buddy can be relentless in his determination to prove he can protect me (I'm giving his motives the benefit of the doubt). Regardless, over the years (and classes and talks with vets, etc.) I've discovered a couple of tricks that have brought his feisty energy level down to a dull roar, and a walk with Buddy is absolutely one of the highlights of my life. Most of the time.
