Description
So happy to announce that "Tracks In The Snow" tied for 1st place in the contest "Ski Tracks In Landscapes But No People and Objects" 3/1/18. My thanks to the contest administrator, Kerstin-Ivarsson and to everyone who voted for my image. Congratulations to the other winners!
A rare people-less glimpse of the beginnings of a twisty-turny ski - trail and slope at beautiful Blue Knob All Seasons Resort, Claysburg, Pa ... "Jack Rabbit."
Once, so the history of the place goes, it was called "Bunny Hop." But many skiers, new to and unfamiliar with our mountain, took this route thinking that because it had "Bunny" in its name, that it was "green," meaning easy and fine for beginners. They quickly learned otherwise. Apparently they voiced their displeasure at the seeming deception to the point that the slope had to be renamed. And rightfully so.
If you look close, you can see the overlaying tracks of skiers and snow-boarders who were taking their last comfortable breath before the dropping and turning slope gets hairy.
Many a time I've looked out from our deck and watched little tiny tiny kiddos, all of 3 feet tall, their legs turned in their determined pizza wedges, no poles, helmets screwed on tight ... and I've sent up a little prayer for them. "Jack Rabbit" can be a fun ride. But it can be a doozie.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
