A brilliant orange and black Eastern Towhee perches on the branch of a flowering tree, singing his love songs to and welcoming spring … enjoying the softness of the season! His trademark red eye is on the alert for a pretty lady Towhee who just might be in the neighborhood.

A traditional ground feeder, seeing a towhee perched on a branch isn't a common sight. The truth is, this combination of elements, some based on one of my own, original (not from stock or public domain) birdie shots is blended with my own original, from the imagination digitally hand-created paintings.

In truth, the poor thing was actually hunkered down in a comfy, hollowed out snowdrift on our deck during a heck of a blizzard several years ago. (But plenty of his favorite sunflower seeds were right behind and above him, so no worries!)

Welcoming Spring is a new version of an old favorite, Singing Eastern Towhee (which is also available on my website here). "Welcoming Spring" has a few more fun embellishments.

This image was hand painted, digitally, in Corel Painter using one of my own original (not from stock or public domain) photographs as a starting point.
