Description
The winter sun is high in the sky over the Shenandoah Valley on this January day in 2020. The winds are brisk and chill and bring tears to your eyes ... but the grace of the patterns in the leafless branches of the American Sycamore that stands in front of a small, half-frozen creek takes your breath away.
As much as we love the full leafed-out summertime specimens of our woody friends, sometimes the bare-branch versions have even more magic.
I don't know how old this guy is, but I think it's possible he was there when the soldiers of the civil war were encamped just a short 10 minute walk away. I wish he could tell me his stories!
"White Tree Blue Sky" is another version of a previously added image here ... to see it in vivid dawn colors of reds and golds, look for my "Shenandoah Dawn."
Image painted by hand, digitally, and very loosely sketched from one of my own photos using Corel Painter, a Wacom tablet, the art pen stylus and many beautiful digital brushes.
