OMG This is super do you know how hard it is to get a good shot and how long i have been trying to capture one of these birds ? forever We have 2 in the woods behind our house ,every time i see them they hide on the other side of the tree .Makes me want to clone myself so i can be in 2 places at once lol great work
Lois Bryan replied:
Mike I'm so thrilled you enjoyed this one ... I have ONE more in my computer that I'll post one of these days ... strictly straight photography ... I don't know what I'm saving him for, lol. And yes, I DO know how hard they are to capture. This is one of a pair ... and they've been living in this area for years. We'd seen one of them years ago ... then never again. BUT we could hear them ... not knowing what they were, I always wondered. Then on the day I got this shot, I'd seen them again for about a week or two prior ... and when I heard one, we'd just gotten home from some function or other ... and baby, I didn't even take time to change out of my shoes, LOL!!! I just grabbed the camera (it had the 150-500 on it) and out the door I went.

Gorgeous Pileated Woodpecker shot!! They're so hard to shoot because they move around so much. Great capture, I love it!
Joy Nichols
This is such a wonderful capture of the pileated woodpecker
Lois Bryan replied:
thank you, Joy ... they are still around ... I heard one this morning, but because of all the leaves on the trees, didn't see him. This one led me on quite the chase (I was wearing heels, lol!!!) ... but I got the shots!!!!!!
Angela Davies
Fabulous capture and editing! Love the pose and mood created! You have taken the viewer into the world of this woodpecker! Fave!
Lois Bryan replied:
thank you so much, Angela!!! I'm sure we have this guy and his mate in our area frequently ... but unless the leaves are off the trees, we rarely see them!!!! So glad you enjoyed this one ... it was quite an adventure getting the shot!!!!
