On a cold winter afternoon a solitary starling fluffs his feathers and hunches up against the biting wind. The branches of the redbud tree are bare and afford him little defense against the icy northern blasts. The snow has stopped for the moment, but will start again soon.
But just above Birdie hangs a feeder filled with shelled sunflower seeds and another feeder filled with a tasty suet cake. He and his family, of which there are many, many members, will enjoy a good meal today. He waits his turn at the feeders. See how he glances over at us ... he is saying thank you.

Welcome! I"m a photographer and digital artist living in the Mid-Atlantic area of the US. Drawing and creating my own little sketchy worlds are some of my earliest memories. Life did what it does and the art fell away, but I reconnected when digital photography was introduced. I enjoy adding to my love of photography by tinkering with computer art programs including Photoshop, Corel Painter, Rebelle and others , though I do not use Ai / Artificial Intelligence. I also love working completely freehand with no photo reference involved. All of which is allowing me to circle back to a semblance of my days of sketching and painting traditionally. Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a glitch in our system. The images in...

Great story and work of art, starlings though hated by many have their own form of beauty and colorful feathers. On the worst snowy days they like to help themselves to left over dry cat food at my barn. Can't say I enjoy them doing that but they disappear again when the snow starts to melt. They are amazing survivors.
Lois Bryan replied:
Thanks so much, Angela ... they are greedy devils, no question about that, but they're not as bossy and mean as my resident mocking bird!!! And I will say this for the starlings, they are so comical when they're all at the feeder together!!! Plus, as you said, they do eventually move on (unlike that stinker the mockingbird!!!) ; ))
