Description
Ever since I was a little girl I've loved carnations. I think it started with my beautiful cousin Betty Lou. I was the flower girl in her wedding long ago, which was held in Florida, an exotic and foreign world, far from my every-day life in the Mid-Atlantic states. I was just a little thing at the time, but from old photos, I know we did a lot of sight-seeing each time we were there. Though the memories of St. Petersburg and Miami Beach in the 50s and the gardens at Vizcaya are now only impressions of light and color and warmth, a vision of Vizcaya's indoor swimming pool stuck. Wow!!! Somehow the fragrance of carnations has become associated with that magical time.
Not to mention, as ingredients in a bouquet, carnations stay fresh and fragrant for quite a while!!
This particular grouping of carnations is in a very special old cobalt blue vase. It once belonged to my grandmother and sat on a glass shelf in front of a window in her kitchen. Being extremely nearsighted and having gone undiagnosed for years, odd things took my fancy. The vision of sunlight pouring through this particular vase always captivated me.
Hope you enjoy this impressionistic-y representation that carries with it memories of beauty and special times.
