One of my favorite things to do in summer and fall is to visit the garden in the early morning while dew is still on the blossoms. One morning in September, 2012, found my Nikon D300 and me doing just that. The capture of this particular aster is pretty much straight out of the camera, a highly unusual circumstance, as I love to mess with my images. But this one seemed awfully pretty without much in the way of edits, so for once, I left it alone.

Here is what The Farmer's Almanac has to say about asters: "Asters are daisy-like perennials with starry-shaped flower heads. They bring delightful color to the garden in late summer and autumn when many of your other summer blooms may be fading.

The plant's height ranges from 8 inches to 8 feet, depending on the type. You can find an aster for almost any garden and they have many uses, such as in borders, rock gardens, or wildflower gardens. Asters also attract butterflies to your garden!"
