A quiet rural scene captured somewhere in Great Britain on a lovely, sunny May day in 2012 by my son, Rich Bryan, when he was studying in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was using the Nikon D40x and the 18-135mm Nikkor lens.
In looking at the wonderful stone fences ... and you can see they trail and zig-zag up and down the hills in the background ... you can't help thinking about the generations of people who built and maintained them in years gone by. The top of the hill, though it may be hard to distinguish thanks to my wobbly, painterly strokes, is actually covered with rocks and boulders. To build the fences, in my imagination, I see the farmers working to dislodge the rocks, break them up, and haul them down to the valley. This was probably all done with a horse and cart. To me, knowing this makes me appreciate the lovely scene even more.
I don't know quite where this was taken and hope to be getting a bit more information about the location soon. Will update when I do...
Welcome! I"m a photographer and digital artist living in the Mid-Atlantic area of the US. Drawing and creating my own little sketchy worlds are some of my earliest memories. Life did what it does and the art fell away, but I reconnected when digital photography was introduced. I enjoy adding to my love of photography by tinkering with computer art programs including Photoshop, Corel Painter, Rebelle and others , though I do not use Ai / Artificial Intelligence. I also love working completely freehand with no photo reference involved. All of which is allowing me to circle back to a semblance of my days of sketching and painting traditionally.
