Description
A rosy little male house finch takes a rest from competing with his buddies at the backyard bird feeder. With snow falling since the day before, the morning sun that's just beginning to part the stormy clouds, must feel good on his little back.
The red coloring of male finches varies greatly, and depends on pigments in their diet. The pigments are carotenoids, the same ones found in carrots and tomatoes. Since female finches prefer males with bigger and brighter red patches ... it’s a sign of a well-fed mate ... this little guy is sure to be very popular with the ladies this spring.
Fine art and product purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... wall art will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
Image captured with the Nikon D7000 and the Sigma 150-500mm. Not created using Artificial Intelligence.

Angela thank you .. .this is a colorful little guy … usually the red isn't that pronounced farther down the body. I think reading up on them and the color variations, now I know why I get so confused by them!!!
