"Moonstruck" won second place in the contest "Cosmic Curiosities," a juried competition, on Fine Art America April 27, 2015. My thanks to Ricky Haug, the host of the contest, as well as to the jurors. Congratulations to Raymond Salani III, the first place winner, and to Svetlana Nikolova, the third place winner.
A snowy, wintery field ... the moon rising over the frozen land ... a flock of birds flying swiftly away ... as if fleeing some danger we cannot see. When I created this image, I'd been reading about the flocks of birds that had been found mysteriously dead and dying ... particularly in Arkansas, USA, but actually all around the world ... and wanted to send this little image out into the universe for them.
The original image of the field and the trees and shed was taken near Osterburg, Pennsylvania (in broad daylight), with the Nikon D40x in January of 2009. I used the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, shutter speed was 1/500, aperture was f/11.0, exposure was -0.33, iso 400. Lots of playing in Photoshop CS4 and Version 8 and in Capture NX2. HDR in Photomatix Pro. My thanks to Skeletal Mess @ Flickr for the texture and Obsidian Dawn and Brusheezy for some of the brushes.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
