Description
A little Downy Woodpecker, busy at his morning breakfast ritual of tapping for insects on a near by tree, takes a moment from his search to gaze over at us. The gaze turns to a stare ... he's definitely made eye contact and is holding it. The look on his face is priceless ... not surprise, exactly ... more a look of annoyance. How dare we rudely interrupt such important business?
The smallest woodpecker in North America at only 6 to 7 inches in length, he can be very hard to see. But taking the time to find him is worth the trouble ... he's definitely one of the cutest of our feathered friends.
Image sketched and painted by hand, digitally, and very loosely based on one of my own photos using Corel Painter 2019, a Wacom tablet, the art pen stylus and a wide variety of beautiful digital brushes.
This image was NOT created using AI - Artificial Intelligence programs.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... it will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

I often wonder what animals think when they look at us. This bird painting is so precious!

Ginette ... I wonder the same thing!!! I think in this case he was checking me out to make sure I didn't disturb him as he was just about to indulge in some peanut suet cake I had set out!!
