An adorable French Poodle, bright shining dark eyes filled with questions, seemingly hopes for a pet and kind word. And maybe a doggie treat, too!

When I was a little girl, we always had cats. Now don't get me wrong, I love cats with all my heart. But my dream was to have a doggie. One of those creatures that actually come when you call ... and are happy to see you when you walk into the room. The object of my desire was a miniature black French Poodle. My grandmother, who was an amazing seamstress, actually made me a stuffed one. I still remember him, and loved him dearly.

Now let me tell you, little girls can dream ... and pray ... and hope ... with an intensity that, quite frankly, I'm surprised doesn't occasionally cause volcanoes or earthquakes. I remember putting my stuffed doggie at the foot of my bed and waking up with such hope that my little stuffed friend would have become real overnight.

Though that never happened, my dream, as good dreams sometimes do, did come true. But ... as also happens in the real-life world ... it came true a bit late. I was no longer a little girl ... I was quite a bit older ... nearly 20 ... and about to be married and move away. Regardless, I loved that funny little guy.

Though my image is not of that long ago goof-ball doggie of ours, this little guy does remind me of him very much.
