Description
Hazy summer afternoons on the porch ... the more seasoned among us probably share memories of just such days. Before air conditioning became a way of life here in the Mid-Atlantic States and south ... the porch was the go-to destination to escape the heat. When to take a break from the chores of everyday meant minutes stolen outside where the breezes could find us, if there were any, with maybe a folded up church bulletin as a fan to aid Mother Nature's cooling system.
Looking at the sky ... we're wondering if it will storm ... no cell phone apps to tell us that the rain will begin in 20 minutes. Just the way the wind suddenly hushes, the leaves on the trees suddenly still ... the sky eerily greenish and darker at the western horizon. Your dog's hackles rise and he paces. He hears the thunder from miles away long before we will.
We'll need to close the windows soon. But not yet.
Image taken at the little stone house behind Beallair Manor House in Charles Town, WV. Beallair was the home of Lewis Washington, a nephew of George Washington. During the infamous raid on Harper's Ferry, John Brown abducted Lewis and held him for ransom, October 16, 1859.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
