Description
Three baby bluebirds have just left the nest box and are perched on their little front porch. One more baby, still inside the box, is wondering if there's room for him outside among his siblings.
I can't tell you how exciting it is to host these little bluebird families in our back yard. I'd suspected that the fledging was due and had removed all the bird seed we keep stocked in the feeders several days ago. I even removed the water from the bird bath. Normally our yard is a hub of avian activity, but I know that many of our feathered visitors can be carnivorous, and I didn't want to take any chances. i'm glad I did, as today was a peaceful day for the fledging. Mom and Dad stayed close by, vigorously chasing off any of the sinister birdies and calmly calling to and encouraging their little brood to make the big leap. It killed me to do it, but I left them alone for an hour or so. By the time I came back nobody was left on the porch and I could hear them calling in the trees behind us ... the big day was a big success!!

Thanks so much, Gordy ... they were soo darling ... and I was terrified of scaring them and having them do something they shouldn't!! We'd been watching them and rooting for them for weeks!!! So a couple of very quick snaps with the Nikon and I dashed!!
