Description
A brilliant orange-red-yellow lily seemingly stretches out of the early morning shadows to gather up the summer sunlight. Her curling petals remind us of fingers closing on the warmth of the new day as if she's reaching for her breakfast.
The configuration of the gardens in our old house was interesting. The back of the house faced west and was basically a very steep hill. We put in several terraces to make the space user-friendly, and added gardens on some of the flat areas. Our flower varieties came and went, but the lilies were a consistent happy resident during all the years. One of the interesting and so pretty delights of the garden was the way the shadows and light would interplay in early morning, some parts of some flowers catching the light while other areas would remain in darkness, as this image demonstrates.
"A Bright Spot" was sketched and painted by hand, digitally, in Corel Painter using the thick-paint techniques and brushes of MoDo - Dmitry Marin. It is loosely based on my own photo, not from stock or public domain.
