Description
On a drive down an old country road on a sunny day in West Virginia's Panhandle area you're sure to find something beautiful to delight your eye. As I took this particular back road I passed through Bunker Hill and fell in love with this wonderful old mill.
According to the historical plaque that stands in front of the mill building:
"Bunker Hill was a thriving community in the 1820s with at least 10 mills, a brick plant, a copper shop and other industrial operations. This 2000 acre dispersed village was established by General Elisha Boyd, the owner of Martinsburg's Boydville Estate. Bunker Hill was one of the earliest mills, which was operational in 1738. It was built rebuilt in 1890 and is the only mill in the state featuring duel water wheels. The present gristmill structure contains 19th and 20th century milling equipment that is still in operational condition."
I have taken great liberties with this picture. The rutted dirt road you see here is now a nicely paved two-lane street complete with a giant double yellow line down the center. Lots of fun in other ways as well, but I hope the image remains true to the current structure as well as to the spirit of its impressive origins.
This image is hand-painted, digitally, and very loosely based on one of my own exclusive and original photographic images captured in May of 2021 with the Nikon D750 and the Nikor 24-70mm f2.8G. Created in Corel Painter with a variety of brushes with a Wacom tablet and the art pen.
NOT created by using AI - Artificial Intelligence.
Purchases will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
